& Church History
PROGRAM EMPHASES
This is an integrated Th.M.-Ph.D. program. Its purpose is to prepare scholars and educators for teaching, research and leadership in the theological schools and Christian agencies in Asia and the Pacific. Emphases will be on:
• Developing disciplinary expertise
• Contextual relevance
• Critical reflection
• Integration of faith and life
• Balance between the classical, and
--contemporary, contextual approaches
• Sensitivity to the diversity of the Christian --tradition
PROGRAM DESIGN
MASTER OF THEOLOGY Course offerings in Theological Studies will provide opportunity for in-depth study in four fields: Biblical Theology, Systematic Theology, Historical Theology, Theology in Context.
Note : The Church History track may be offered if there are enrollees.

The research methods course will deal with research pertinent to the historical and theological academic disciplines. The expected output from the course will be the submission of a thesis proposal to be defended and approved. The teaching practicum will be enrolled in and supervised. Thesis writing will be required for the Th. M. program if the program is terminal for the respective students.
DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY
Students may apply for admission into the integrated Th.M.-Ph.D. program either before or after completion of the Th.M. program. Admission and advanced standing will be evaluated on the basis of established criteria specific to the discipline. If a Th.M. student is approved to proceed to the Ph.D., Th.M. course work will be transferred to the doctoral program, and thesis writing will be waived.

Readings, papers and integration seminars for the tutorials will be related to and build toward the dissertation. Tutorial work will be directed by a mentor or mentors. The expected outcome from the research methods course is the submission of a dissertation proposal.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
• An M. Div. degree or the equivalent with a grade point average of B+ from a recognized / accredited seminary.
• Submission of a substantial paper in English reflecting in-depth study of a topic broadly related to the applicant’s area of interest (minimum of 5,000 words).
• At least 12 units of Theology , 12 units of Biblical Studies, 12 units of Biblical Languages
• For applicants whose first language is not English, a TOEFL score of at least 550 or demonstration of a high level English proficiency.

Prior to being considered for admission, the applicant is required to submit the following documents :

Official transcript of credits covering all college/university and graduate work.

A health certificate indicating physical fitness to pursue seminary studies.

Financial statement indicating how studies and personal/living expenses will be financed,
including commitments from supporting institutions.

Letters of recommendation from an administrator or supervisor, former professor from a
school recently attended and current Pastor.

A statement describing vocational objectives and how the Th.M. and/or Ph.D. Degree relate to these.
